Reading Together

The Importance of Reading as a Family

In the hustle and bustle of today's life, finding moments of togetherness can be very challenging. Yet, one of the most rewarding and enriching experiences a family can share together is the simple act of reading. This shared activity is more than just a way to pass the time; it’s a powerful tool for development, connection, and discovery. Building bonds and lasting memories while reading as a family, creates cherished memories and establishes traditions that can be passed down through many generations. It’s a time when the distractions of the world slowly begin to fade away, allowing families to engage in a shared journey through the pages of a wonderful book. It is a magical time. A time you can go to a faraway world and learn incredible new things.

Educational Advantages

The educational benefits of reading are very well-documented. Children who read with their families tend to have stronger literacy skills and a much greater love for reading. This shared learning experience can spark curiosity, foster a habit of lifelong learning, and improve academic performance.

Emotional Growth

Stories have the power to evoke emotions and help teach empathy. By exploring the lives of characters and their challenges, children can learn to understand and share the feelings of others. This emotional development is very important for building compassionate and socially aware individuals.

Wellbeing and Stress Relief

In today’s super-fast-paced world, reading can be a true haven of calmness. It’s an opportunity to unwind and relax together, reducing stress and promoting mental wellbeing for all family members.

Cultural Exploration

Books are windows into other many other worlds, offering insights into different cultures, histories, and perspectives. Reading as a family can help broaden horizons and encourage open-mindedness and cultural awareness.

So, by incorporating reading into family life, you will learn that it is not just about education; it is also about nurturing a space where your imagination can run free. Communications will be more open and affection between family members can flourish. It’s one of the many investments that you can incorporate into the family’s future. So, start laying the foundation for a lifetime of shared stories and learning.

Facts about Giraffe

🦒Giraffe Facts🦒

I would like to share some facts about Giraffes with you! Giraffes are captivating creatures, and their unique features make them stand out in the animal kingdom. Don't forget to celebrate the giraffes.

What is your favorite animal?

Facts about Giraffes:

1. Giraffes hold the title of being the tallest mammals on Earth. Male giraffes (bulls) can reach heights of up to 18 feet tall. That is equivalent to the height of a single-story house.

2. Female giraffes (cows) are slightly shorter but still impressive.

3. Their most striking feature is their incredibly long neck, which allows them to reach vegetation that other herbivores cannot access. Giraffes also have long legs, high shoulders, and a sloping back. The tapering head is adorned with 2 to 5 short horns.

4. Giraffes use their tongues, which can be almost half a meter long, to eat foliage up to about 20 feet above the ground. They primarily feed on leaves from tall trees, especially acacia trees.

5. By the age of four, giraffes nearly reach their full height. Males can weigh up to 2600 pounds or more, while females weigh up to 1800 pounds or more. Their tails can be about 4 feet or longer, with a tuft of black hair at the end.

6. Both males and females have a pair of horns, and males also possess other bony protuberances on their skulls.

7. Despite having only seven neck (cervical) vertebrae, these vertebrae are elongated to support the long neck. Thick-walled arteries in the neck have extra valves to counteract gravity when the giraffe raises or lowers its head. When the giraffe lowers its head to the ground, special vessels at the base of the brain regulate the blood pressure.

8. Giraffes move in a distinctive way, where both legs on one side move together. During a gallop, they push off with their hind legs, and the front legs come down almost simultaneously. Interestingly, no two hooves touch the ground simultaneously during a gallop.

Facts about Sunflowers

 🎕SUNFLOWER FACTS🎕

Who is ready to learn some facts about sunflowers?

It is such a beautiful day!! So many things to see and do. Have you ever seen a field full of sunflowers? It is such a beautiful sight. Maybe this weekend you could take a trip to the sunflower field with your caretaker/parents. Did you know that sunflowers need at least eight hours of sun a day?

What is your favorite type of flower?

Facts about Sunflowers:

1. Helianthus is the scientific name for sunflowers. There are over 60 species of flowering plants in the daisy family and sunflowers are one of those sixty.

2. Sunflowers are mostly native to North and South America.

3. Sunflowers always face the east in the morning waiting for the sun to start shining and throughout the day the sunflower is able to move towards the sun. When the sun is setting in the west the sunflowers have made a 180 degree turn towards the west. During the nighttime hours the sunflower turns back towards the east so when the sun rises it will get all the warm sunshine and the pattern continues east to west until the sunflower ages and is not able to move anymore.

4. The most common color of sunflowers is yellow, but they can come in other colors such as red, white, and orange.

5. The tallest sunflower ever grown reached 30 feet and 1 inch tall. It was grown by Hans-Peter Schiffer who resides in Germany. The type of sunflower seed he used is called the Kong Sunflower. Most average sunflowers grow from 6 feet to 10 feet tall.

6. At the end of sunflower season, the sunflowers are harvested, and the seeds are dried out. Once the seeds have been dried out people can eat them. Sunflower seeds are sold in many stores around the world.

7. Sunflowers can be either annuals or perennials depending on what species the sunflower is. Annuals only grow once, and perennials can come back the following year.

8. The wild sunflower is the official state flower for Kansas.

9. Bees love sunflowers. Bees carry pollen from one sunflower to another. Pollination is what helps produce the seeds in the sunflower. There are two types of pollination: cross-pollination and self-pollination. Cross-pollination is what the bees do when visiting each sunflower and self-pollination is done by the sunflower itself.
