Facts about the Tittle

Tittle Facts

Do you know what a Tittle is?

I just want to share a bit of history with you about the tittle. Today the word Tittle is rarely used. Do you guys know that the tiny little dot above the lower-case j and i has an actual name? It is called a tittle or superscript. Yeah, I didn't know either.

The word tittle comes from the Latin word titulus, which means title or inscription. The word is rarely used in modern English, except in the phrase “jot and tittle”, which means every small detail. This phrase comes from the Bible, where Jesus says that “not one jot or one tittle” will disappear from the law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:18, King James Version)

The tittle is an interesting feature of writing and printing that shows how letters can change and evolve over time. The tittle can also affect how we read and pronounce words in other languages. The tittle is a tiny but significant mark that definitely deserves our attention.

I did not learn about this fact in school, so I wanted to share it with you guys. Please don't forget to tittle your i's and j's and cross your t's. Have a blessed day!
