Who doesn’t love Ty Beanie Babies? Have you heard about Ty Beanie Babies? If you haven’t heard of them, Ty Beanie Babies are super cute stuffed toys! Ty Warner created the Ty Beanie Babies, and they first appeared at the North American International Toy Fair in New York City, New York, in 1993. Ty Warner is an American businessman and toy manufacturer. Today, there are over 2000 types of Ty Beanie Babies to collect and/or play with and enjoy hours of fun!

Facts about Ty Beanie Babies:

1. There were nine (9) original Ty Beanie Babies that were first introduced in 1993. Here they are in alphabetical order:

• Brownie the Bear
• Chocolate the Moose
• Flash the Dolphin
• Legs the Frog
• Patti the Platypus
• Pinchers the Lobster
• Splash the Whale
• Spot the Dog
• Squealer the Pig

2. Each Beanie Baby comes with an ear tag or swing tag with its name and birth date on it.

3. Ty Warner created the line of Ty Beanie Babies so there would be affordable stuffed toys for children. Ty Beanies Babies have less stuffing than regular stuffed toys, which makes them look different.

4. Ty Beanie Babies were only sold in small shops when they first came out.

5. Teenie Babies are cute miniature versions of the Ty Beanie Babies. Teenie Babies were sold at McDonalds with Happy Meals. McDonalds first introduced the Teenie Babies in 1997.

6. Ty Warner owns Ty, Inc. It was founded in 1986 by Ty Warner. Ty, Inc., is a company that develops products and sells them to other stores. Ty, Inc., is the largest plush manufacturer in the world. Last week, we shared some intriguing facts about Massachusetts that captured the attention of everyone. This week, we're sharing some interesting facts about the state of Michigan. You will learn about Michigan's state flag, bird, and other interesting facts.

Did you know Michigan was the twenty-sixth state to join the United States? It achieved statehood on January 26, 1837, during a period of significant growth and expansion in the country. Michigan is situated in the upper Midwestern region. It is uniquely surrounded by water, making it the only state comprising two peninsulas: the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula. 

The state shares its borders with three other states: Wisconsin to the west, Indiana to the south, and Ohio to the southeast. Additionally, Michigan is renowned for its stunning shorelines, touching four of the five Great Lakes: Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and Lake Huron. This extensive coastline provides breathtaking views and a wealth of recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, and swimming.

In terms of size, Michigan ranks as the eleventh most significant state in the United States, covering approximately 96,716 square miles. The state has a diverse landscape, ranging from sandy beaches to dense forests and rolling hills. With a population of about 10,050,811 residents, Michigan is one of the more populous states, home to vibrant cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor. Each city boasts a unique culture and attractions, contributing to Michigan’s rich heritage and sense of community.

Rondo Dwarf Galago 

Have you ever heard of the Rondo Dwarf galago? I hadn’t until a few days ago, so I thought I’d write a blog post about it. The Rondo Dwarf galago, also known as the Rondo Bushbaby, is a small mammal found in coastal Tanzania. It is super cute, with big ears and eyes.

 

What is your favorite type of galago?

 

Facts about the Rondo Dwarf galago:

1. They are omnivores, which means they eat plants and meat! Rondo Dwarf galagos feed on insects, fruits, and flowers.

2. The Dwarf Rondo galago is the smallest of the galagos. Depending on the type, they can weigh up to three and a half (3 ½) ounces, sometimes more or less. They are about 12 to 13 centimeters long!

3. Galagos can be found in coastal forests of sub-Sahara Africa.

4. The Rondo Dwarf galago was discovered in the 1950s, but not much information was known about them until 1996.

5. They may live in small groups of around two to eight galagos. 

6. They are nocturnal, which means they are mostly active during the nighttime hours and spend most of the daytime hours high up in the trees.

7. There are about 20 species of Galagos. Here is a list of some of them:

•    Brown greater galago
•    Senegal bushbaby
•    Northern greater galago
•    Bioko Allen’s bushbaby
•    Mohol bushbaby

Have you heard of the famous painter Pablo Picasso? Well, guess what? There is a beautiful insect called the Picasso moth. It is so beautiful, and it looks like Pablo Picasso painted the moth himself. The Picasso moth’s scientific name is Baorissa hieroglyphica. Some moths are just as beautiful as butterflies are. The Baorissa hieroglyphica is one of those beautiful moths. It is so beautiful; it looks like a painter painted it with beautiful brush strokes of color. With your parent/caretaker’s permission, google Baorissa hieroglyphica and see how beautiful the moths are.

Facts about the Picasso Moth:

1. The Picasso moth lives in Northeast India and Southeast Asia.

2. There are over 155,000 different species of moths living all over the world. Here is a list of some of those moths in alphabetical order:

• Atlas moth
• Common clothes moth

• Japanese silk moth
• Luna moth
• Lymantria dispar moth
• Picasso moth
• Polyphemus moth

3. The Picasso moth is a nocturnal insect. It is usually most active at night and rests during the day. It does almost all of its traveling at night.

4. The Picasso moth feeds mainly on the nectar from different plants. They are herbivores. Picasso moths are pollinators. A pollinator can be any insect that carries pollen from one flower/plant to another.

5. The Picasso moth has four wings. The two top wings are called the forewings, and the bottom two wings are called the hindwings. When the Picasso moth's wings are folded up, they resemble the shape of an isosceles triangle.

6. You can buy a Picasso moth sculpture on Etsy. They are very well-done replicas of the beautiful Picasso moth.

7. The Baorisa hieroglyphica (Picasso moth) was described in a catalog of Asian butterflies and moths made by a British entomologist named Frederic Moore in 1882.
